Laser hair reduction is an effective method to get rid of that hair which keeps growing back in the areas that you wish to be clean and want silky smooth skin over there. Laser treatment works wonderfully on those areas and destroys the hair follicles in just a few minutes and all you are left with is clean skin, with much-reduced chances of hair growth. Repetitions of the procedure mean the continual reduction in hair follicles and further reduced hair growth.

During the procedure, highly concentrated energy in form of light pulses is used to target the hair follicles to damage them permanently. Once the hair follicle is gone, the hair wouldn’t grow out of that follicle. The best part about laser hair reduction is that it works on all body parts and leave the skin smoother and much attractive. There is hardly any discomfort that you would feel while getting the treatment.

The catch with laser treatment on hair is that the light energy gets attracted to the dark pigment of the hair, just like the sun radiations are absorbed better by darker colors. Thus, targeting accurately and destroying the follicle. For this obvious reason, laser hair reduction works best on darker hair.

At SG Dermatology, Dr. Sumit Gupta believes in offering a customized treatment to the patients as everyone has different skin types and hair textures. A series of sessions may be required to substantially reduce the hair growth in a particular area. Though, the results are clearly visible right after the first session. That is the absolute beauty of permanent hair reduction. The consecutive sessions just keep improving the look, feel and texture of your skin, which is practically hairless and smoother than ever.

Here are a few extremely important points for you to remember if you are considering laser hair reduction for the first time ever.

  • The best work ground for laser is light skin and dark coarse hair. The results are extremely astounding.
  • Do not go for laser hair reduction near eyes or nose. For the rest of the body, it is the best remedy to get rid of unwanted hair permanently.
  • Shave the area before going for the laser. It helps to target the follicles accurately.
  • The pain is bearable and any discomfort during the session is taken care of, by the expert staff at the clinic. Numbing lotions get to the rescue of you cannot handle pain at all.
  • The laser moves quickly to the next follicle. No follicle is targeted twice.
  • It does not take more than 25-30 minutes to complete an entire session. Hence, you can take a small break from work to get the session.
  • Regular work and activities can be resumed immediately after the session.

Now, it is about time you’d choose an option that holds all the capability to leave you with a new smoother you. Go for laser hair reduction. Do it now!

Tattoo Removal

Case Study – Tattoo Removal – Ananya Chaudhry

Recently, 26 years old Ananya Chaudhry from Gurgaon came to us with a tattoo removal requirement. She wanted to get it removed because she had some painful memories associated with the tattoo and could not bear it any longer, moreover she was getting married and wanted to start afresh. A lot of patients come to us with primarily emotional and psychological reasons for tattoo removal.

After examining the tattoo, we found out that it was a permanent tattoo on the upper back with deep ink pigmentation, but could easily be removed with our most effective laser techniques.

Laser tattoo removal techniques can get rid of your unwanted tattoo with minimal side effects.

We started Ananya’s tattoo removal treatment with a consultation session with Dr. Sumit Gupta, who is the expert dermatologist. Dr. Gupta examined, evaluated and thoroughly checked the tattoo for the possible treatment that could be offered. Thereafter, the expert advice was offered about the technique, modality, effects, and results of the treatment. It was clearly mentioned that the number of required sessions depends upon the age, size, and color of the tattoo. It was told that the color of Ananya’s skin, as well as how deep the tattoo pigment was embedded, will also affect the removal technique.

The Technique Used to Remove Ananya’s Tattoo

Lasers technique is used to remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity laser light beam. Black tattoo pigments are the easiest to remove as they absorb all laser wavelengths, but other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color. Ananya’s tattoo was in three different colors, thus, we had to exclusively customize her treatment.

Ananya was provided with shield eye-glasses before her session went into progress, to protect her eyes from the effects of high laser-beam. Highly sophisticated SpectraXT laser device from Lutronic, USA was used to deliver exceptional results for her tattoo removal. The device allows us to customize the wavelength, spot size, and energy to a great extent, empowering us to target different kinds of pigments at different depths effectively without any side effects. All three colors in her tattoo were targeted differently with varied wavelengths and energy.

Anaya’s had to undergo 4 sessions to get the tattoo completely removed. After every session ice-pack application was used to soothe the area and provide added comfort. She was advised to use protective antibiotic cream and sunblock to cover the treated skin whenever she ventured out. Apart from this, she never faced any side effects or complications throughout her tattoo removal treatment by Dr. Sumit Gupta

In just a few sessions, her tattoos begin to fade and she was extremely delighted with the results. Ananya left as a hapdelhipy person after her treatment was complete, and her smiles provided us many more reasons to smile even more.

The Most Effective And Long Lasting Remedy

For all who are suffering from the bane of unwanted excessive hair, Laser Technology is the boon! Laser Hair Reduction and making waves these days and is proving to be the most effective and long lasting remedy. It treats larger areas with minimal discomfort and produces almost negligible complications, as compared to other methods.

How Does Laser Hair Reduction Work?

The major technology that works behind laser hair reduction is selective photothermolysis (SPTL). Which means a specific wavelength of light is matched with a pulse duration to get best effect on a target tissue. This produces minimal effect on the surrounding tissues. Thus, the localized area is damaged by selectively heating the target matter, melanin, to kill the hair follicle and stop hair from re-growing in that follicle.

Once the procedure is completed cooling of skin is done to reduce pain and side effects, especially in darker skin. There are various cooling methods that can be used depending upon the condition namely contact cooling, air cooling, and Cryogen Spray.

How many sessions are required for Laser Hair Reduction?

Hair grows in several phases. These phases are known as anagen, telogen, catagen and a laser can only affect the currently active growing hair follicles which is early anagen. Hence, several sessions are needed to kill hair in all phases of growth, if one wants to get rid of hair completely.

The effects of Laser Hair Reduction also depend upon the type of hair and skin color. If the hair are coarse and darker and skin is lighter, the reduction therapy works more effectively. Other factors that affect the treatment are reasons for hair growth, sex and health of the skin. Usually, most patients need a minimum of seven treatment sessions. Certain areas like men’s faces may require considerably more treatments to achieve desired results. A general waiting of 3-7 weeks is recommended between the sessions.

Typically the shedding of the hair treated with Laser takes about two to three weeks. These hairs should be allowed to fall out on their own and should not be manipulated by the patient.

Laser Hair Reduction is proving to be the most workable remedy to unwanted excessive hair and it is increasingly becoming easy on the pocket too!

Acne Vulgaris

Acne Vulgaris – Symptoms, Causes and Treatment!

Acne Vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin problem which is known by different names such as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, or zits. It is a disorder of sebaceous glands or oil glands present in the skin. It is a usual problem at teenage but can happen at any age. Most young people face acne troubles, mild or major, and it usually gets better after teens. Women face acne issues before their menstrual periods.

A lot of debris along with the germs build up in the blocked follicles of the skin and becomes a comedy. The comedones are of two types i.e. a black head and a white head. If these comedones break and the sebum inside comes in direct contact with the air, its top portion turns black giving rise to the blackhead. Comedo with white top is known as a white head.

What are the common symptoms of Acne?

Symptoms of Acne Vulgaris are commonly seen as whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Redness around these skin eruptions and scarring of the skin also signals towards acne. Sometimes these eruptions are deep and unusually large in size, these are called cystic lesions. They become quite painful if caught by infection.

What causes acne?

Usually, acne is caused due to hormonal changes in the puberty years. These hormonal changes stimulate oil production in the skin and follicles get clogged. It affects the areas of skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles; these areas include the face, the upper part of the chest, and the back. In males, it is caused as an abnormal response to normal levels of testosterone.

As the responses to hormonal changes start diminishing, acne tends to disappear or decrease. But one cannot predict how long it will take for the acne to disappear and some people may continue to suffer for years after puberty.

Though the major cause remains the skin pores getting clogged by dead skin cells and oil, there could be genetic causes to acne too.

Using some cosmetic products can worsen the problem. Also, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, polycystic ovary syndrome, and other endocrine disorders with excess androgens may trigger the development of acne vulgaris.

How is Acne Vulgaris treated?

Acne treatment depends on whether one is suffering from a mild, moderate or severe form. There are many treatments available for Acne vulgaris.

Treatment for Mild Acne Treatment

At early stages or when the problem seems mild, it can be treated with topical application of Benzoyl Peroxide based ointment or an azelaic acid-based composition.

Treatment for Inflammatory Acne

For inflammatory one, there are topical applications available such as retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid etc, but one must consult a skin specialist before choosing the right prescription for their condition. In some cases of inflammatory acne, antibiotics are also prescribed which are erythromycin, tetracycline, clindamycin, oxytetracycline or doxycycline. These are to be administered either topically or orally, as per the composition.

Treatment for Severe Acne

In case of severe acne, oral doses of antibiotics is a must to kill the infection from the body. These antibiotics are doxycycline, minocycline etc. Skin specialists often prescribe Oral Isotretinoin for severe acne.

Once the acne is treated, it becomes important to treat the residual scars too. These scars, sometimes, can be severe that cause disfigurement of body areas affected by acne and face. There are several treatments available for the residual scars which depend upon various factors like the depth and size of the scar, previous treatment is taken, their results and so on.

One may consider the following scar eliminating treatments:
